Kymco Agility 125 maintenance @ 10.000 kms

Today I did maintenance of A125 myself because the warranty has just expired (2 years or 10.000 km, whichever comes first)

- changed spark plug - no issues, the old spark plug was like new after 10k km, no deposits, no change in color, no wear of electrodes

- inspected fuel filter

- inspected and cleaned air filter

- changed oil in front brake - no issues

- checked tightness of screws and bolts (loose ones found on exhaust, one screw missing on the front cover and replaced)

- changed engine oil - issue - the service manual says:

"Remove the drain bolt to drain the engine oil thoroughly. Remove the oil filter screen cap and clean the oil filter screen with compressed air"

Of course, there is no picture of "drain bolt" anywhere to be seen in the service manual!!!! So I guess it is the screw on the other (left) side. I have drained the oil through oil filter screen cap but I think I did not replace everything that way. Any ideas?

- changed transmission oil - big issue. I think I have X-File Agility. Of course, my transmission cover looks different than the one in service manual, and just like the on on jprestonian`s ex. Agility as shown on http://kymcojones.blogspot.com/2007/06/first-scheduled-maintenance-day.html . I have drained the oil into measurement tube (1.2 dl flowed out) and used injection to add new oil. I have added 1 dl, 2 dl, 3 dl and it still DID NOT FLOW OUT OF THE CHECK HOLE. Not knowing what to do I have drained half again and left 1.5 dl inside (I remind you, initially there was 1.2 dl inside, service manual says 1.1 dl during disassembly and 1 dl during change). So, my logic was "there was 1.2 dl inside and eventhough I can pour in 3+ dl, I will leave it as it was".


I  would really be happy to hear from other A125 owners that have changed engine and transmission oils themselves on the last two topics.

The next thing is service belt and roller weight replacement around 12-13.000 kms.

I'd be tempted to drain it all out, and start over, putting a maximum of 1.2dL back in.

But before you do that, I'd run a length of wire back in the fill hole, just to make sure that there's not something preventing the excess from flowing out, somehow. No way should it hold that much... and if it does, I wouldn't leave it in there.

This is exactly what I did. I have drained everything out and left just 1.2 dl, as it was initially inside before first draining.
Strange story.

What about oil change? There is no other plug than the one that holds spring, washer and wire-mesh filter?

That is the oil drain plug. Just put a catch container underneath, drain it out, reinstall the filter screen, spring and plug, then open the oil fill tube (dipstick), insert a funnel, and fill it back up. Piece of cake!

Once again, this is what I did.

Listen to this. The service manual says that it takes 0.8l of oil for the change. I have drained the oil (before that it was up to MAX mark on the dipstick) and poured in 8 dl of fresh oil.

Of course, the oil was full up to the dipstick cap! I mean, FULL ENGINE!

So, I used a large syringe to take out the excessive oil.

I was not lazy so I have measured the amount of old oil. There was 0.6 l of oil (I remind you, up to the MAX mark on the dipstick).

On top of everything, I have a different transmission casing than the one in the manual (like you had). I suspect Kymco has changed some parts of the engine and transmission but they did not change the fluid amounts in the manual.

One more thing, I have a service manual for People 250S, yet all pictures inside show People 250 that is completely different, especially when it comes to Tupperware removal. This is inexcusable IMHO.

Were you on the center stand, on level ground?  Was the oil warm (meaning, "Had you run the bike for at least three minutes before opening the drain plug")? Did you leave the drain plug out for 10 minutes or more?  All of these would be factors that could affect the amount of engine oil that drained from the engine.

It also could be that the Agility 125 sold in Europe is a completely different animal than the one sold here in the U.S.  I simply don't know.

The scooter was on center stand on level ground. The oil was warm - I was scooting for 25 kms before coming to the place where I performed the maintenance, waited for 10 minutes for the machine to slightly cool down and then drained the oil.

Agility looks the same, judging from your pics.

I told you. X-Files.

p.s. God knows what will I find out when I try to replace the belt and CVT rollers...

Hi there,

I want to also release the oil from the drain plug. I have the oil 10w 40 Castrol 4T. I've read every comment here but I'm a little confuse about the different types of oil listed in; transmission, engine, etc.

If I drain the oil, can I use the new oil to fill everything? Need some assistant here.

P.S What is 0.8dl?

Hi expert, I just need some advice about the draining the oil out. What is the filter screen, spring and plug? Once I drain the oil do I replace it with new oil (10w 40 Syn 4T) through the dipstick using a funnel? What about the others; filter screen, spring and plug, I'm unsure what to do?

Is 'drain plug' the same as 'drain bolt'?

There should be a bolt which i believe is a 17mm on the side of the case. This is your drain plug it runs paralell. The other plugs is the one you pulled and it is of scourse your filter screen. The rear end is the only other fluid in my agility 125 and i just drain it and fill it back to the very bottom edge of the fill hole. I think my engine hold close to a quart and my rear holds maybe half quart.

You are putting way too much in the gear box. They are usually vented to the air filter housing. I am surprised you are not getting some over flow in the filter housing. Not good.

The service manual calls for ..

at assembly--.02 liters thats 6.7 ounces

at change--.19 litters. thats 6.4 ounces.

Not a one of these scooters came from the factory with the gear oil to the bottom of the fill hole.

My People 150 calls for 2.1 litters or 7.1 ounces. I have had NO issues using that amount.

My engine calls for .81 litters or 27.4 ounces. That puts it right on the full mark.

My A50 is exactly the same when changing oils, going with the manual amounts I am over full so I just put in slightly under and check the levels.

There's very little oil in there and no filter so..

I do engine oil every 2000kms or so and at every 2nd engine oil change i do my gear oil too.
