New belt
« on: June 19, 2013, 05:53:32 AM »
I changed my tires, now, I still have time left.. might as well change the belt with 16,000+ on the odometer, I think my original belt might be ready to go... To my surprise, the old belt is in very good condition.. all the cogs intact.. no cracks, and the wear was very even... it's just narrower than the new one... I think I'll keep this as a spare for an emergency...

Got a new OEM Kymco belt... acceleration was better maybe because of the belt's width... chattering was gone... and I thought it was the clutch..Hmmm...  ::)

Paid 250 pesos for labor... around $5.80   8)

No way in the States would labor be so affordable unless you do it yourself. Here in California labor rates are around $85/hr. Man I wish I could pay what you pay. Good on you for keeping your ride maintained and in good safety condition.

So what's next, brake pads?

@reed: It was the OEM that I bought from the Kymco dealership here... no idea about the exact size... I just said belt for the Super 8...  I paid 1,050.00 Philippine pesos or around 24 U.S. Dollars...

@Troutbum:  I checked the brake pads and shoes when I got the new tires... they are still good for another year or more maybe... but for sure it would be both the brakes and the wheel bearings... I will be upgrading the wheel bearings for more durable ones...

Goin good Vivo, goin good. Not takin any classes this summer. Will graduate in December. Might be going to a local university for a Bachelors. Sort of a new development. I'll be looking into it in the next few weeks. Highly likely though. How you been? Hasn't been anymore tropical storms flooding your area has there?

Went to replace the belt on my P150 a few weeks ago.  The scoot has 20,000+ km on it and it was difficult to see any difference between the old belt and the new OEM one.  So cleaned up the clutch pads and bell, left the old belt on and will check if it needs the new one after another couple thousand km or so.

@Calothrix:  I thought of not replacing the belt also because it still looks very good but there were two things that made me decide to replace... (1) At 16,000+ on the odo, the belt had a lot of stress and the deterioration might just not be visible and might snap anytime, and  (2) I seldom have time to spare, so might just as well do it...  The old belt will be kept as a spare...   Ride Safe!

@Peters: I'm fine Peters..son just Graduated from College and got a good job in just after a month... So, a Bachelor's degree huh, I thought you'll get a job after GTCC? anyways, good luck...  BTW, you're right about a storm... there's one hitting our country right now...

Glad you and your son are doing well. Hope that storm doesn't do too much damage. Better batten down the hatches.
