2013 Like 50 gear oil fill

i don't know if this is a stupid design but basically you need to put 4.05oz (.12L) but the filler hole sits below the "full" level so when you take out the gear oil quart the oil runs out and you have to hurry to put the bolt back in. stupid design?

Silly question, but is the bike on its centrestand or on the side stand?

The manufacturer gives you the capacity for full, but the actual volume that a reservoir will take depends on how much fluid is still in there or how level the bike is. The same goes for engine oil for a car or four stroke bike. Check the dipstick as you approach full. It's not necessarily the whole jug that goes in.

The final drive gear case should be filled to the level of the filler hole. Above that is overfilling.

it was on the center stand. I originally took out the filler bolt first and gear oil started coming out. i put it back in and then took out the drain plug. drained and filled with proper amount and it wanted to go pas the filler hole.....weird

Are you sure you used the right bolt? It should be below the fill hole when full.
If you overfill you will have oil leaking into the clutch area!

Take the bike off it's centre stand and have an assistant hold it on its centre of balance... Then top up the fluid
