I'm looking to contact any South African owners of Kymco 500 Xcitings to hear about their experiences with their bikes.

Hi Greg

I am in Cape Town.

Also looking to hook up with ZA owners, to discuss mods, and/or economical servicing, plus rides.

Anyways, Keep safe, and enjoy the ride.

Hi xciting500#, I have never seen Greg on this forum apart from this one post in 2013.
Anyways, re your clutch issue.
From what I have read over the years on these forums, the answer will be various reasons cause clutch symptoms.
Slipping belt, as it is wearing Thin.
Variator Rollers stuck, worn flat.
Clutch springs, main one weakening, or the smaller ones, one breaking, or the mount point wearing, causing clutch pad misalignment.
Lastly, the clutch pad material is wearing out, but that should be obvious with metallic screeching noises.
My clutch bell warped, and I had it replaced.
You have to open up the tranny using a good impact wrench.
Note this: turn the nuts back on afterwards by hand when putting it all back together, to ensure they not misaligned (I did that) or the impact wrench will totally wreck the thread (check my posts for history)
If you a local Capie Boy, try Kymco agents, moto junction, brackenfell.ph 0219822333. They do recon clutches.
Good luck

I am in East London and Kymco 500s are very scarce here. My scoot is standard and I have no intention of modifying it as it is sufficient for my needs. It is a bit heavy on fuel around town but on the open road gives me 20km/litre or better if ridden at 5500rpm (not sure of speed as speedo is very inaccurate).

I have found answers to most of my queries on this forum so have avoided repeating a question. The most valuable has been overridding the stand kill-switch that now allows the engine to run with the stand down.

I am currently getting 135kmh at 7500rpm. I used to get better top end before the belt was replaced. Exactly the same width and length are extremely important for performance issues. I still have my old belt and might put it back on to confirm my suspicions.

Of your budget can handle the exchange rate 14:1 then a Malossi clutch and variator  kit will really put some pep into your baby.
Import is  the only option for these performance parts.

I am up for a ride any time in or near Cape Town. But, for personal enjoyment, it should really only be maxis in the group.
The reason for this is that for the xciting 500, the lowest speed that the scoot is stable, and the clutch is biting nicely,  is 80kmh.
Slower than that I find myself correcting steering and balance to much for my liking.
