Good words, Blue. You just never know what other people will do in traffic. We just had an accident here where they were riding 2 up at 3:30 am last night. The guy driving the scooter crashed, then took off and left his scooter and female passenger laying there with serious head injuries. The police found him a few hours later and booked him with a felony. Obviously, he wasn't wearing a helmet either - his mug shot showed the whole left side of his face a total mess. Serves him right for taking off like that. What a jerk!

Sometimes I wonder if it's really worth riding.  I worry so much about the other guy causing an accident, that I do wonder if it's worth taking the chance.

So far, I do think that I am visible to other drivers.  I ride a DT300i and wear a red helmet and a bright shirt.  The bike's lights are pretty bright and I do get the feeling that people can see me.  So, I just try to be extra cautious and enjoy the ride at the same time.

the trouble in the northeast (Vermont) is that as soon as the weather becomes nice, people lose brain cells and stop paying attention. after my recent accident, I'm not sure if I'll ride again; but I feel some pride welling up that makes me want to hop on again. the trouble is, can I do so without being basket case due to fear? the only thing I can suggest to others that I wasnt doing is to wear those neon colors, those hiviz colors, so that you can stand out like an eyesore.

I hope you feel like riding a scooter again, some day. Take all the time you need -you'll know when.

And yes, the hi viz neon gear is hard on the eyes ......but who cares?
Honestly - unless you're passing in front of a big store window - you can't see yourself - or what you look like.
Tell you what, I wouldn't be riding this thing if I cared what people thought. 6'3" on a plastic scooter.
I'm having a blast - and being careful and an eye-sore in my high viz stuff.
Off to 2 day cycle safety class tomorrow.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.
