Howdy, all!  I'm a 50+ male in Oklahoma who's contemplating purchase of a scooter for the first time ever.  I'm hoping some kind folks on the Kymco Forum can relate their scooter shopping experiences re: Kymco vs. other scooter makes and if they chose a Kymco, what tipped the scales in Kymco's favor.

First off, I'm interested in more than just a commuter, so I've focused on the various offerings of 250cc and up from Aprilia (SportCity 250), Kymco (Xciting 250 & 500), Piaggio (primarily the MP3 250 & 400) and Suzuki (Burgman 400).  I'm not that crazy about the Yamaha offerings and, while I'm otherwise a big Honda fan (I drive a 2000 Odyssey and cut my grass with a Honda mower) in my book the Silver Wing's way, way spendy for what you get.

I test rode an MP3 250 and really enjoyed the experience, but they are a bit pricey and the closest Vespa / Piaggio dealership to me is 40 miles south of Bartlesville in Tulsa.

I've also checked the Burgman out and liked what I saw, though have not taken one out for a spin.  A couple big points in the Burgman's favor for me are 1.) Bartlesville Cycle Sports is the local Suzuki dealer and they're only about 2 miles away from my house; 2.) Bartlesville Cycle Sports sells their new 2009 Burgmans at a BIG everyday discount off of MSRP.  The price breaks range from $1,400 off MSRP for a Burgman 650 Executive to $1,000 off MSRP for a Burgman 400.  This means I could buy a new 2009 Burgman 400 for just $150 more than what I'd pay for a Kymco Xciting 250 at Tulsa Scooters which, at 40-50 miles away, is the closest Kymco dealer to me.  Also, they've got the remaining non-used 2008 Burgman 400's marked down to $5,299, which is $160 LESS than I'd pay for an Xciting 250 down in Tulsa.

The more I read about the Xciting models, the more I like what I read and Tulsa Scooters does have some complementary testimonials from satisfied customers on its website.  I also like the two-year warranty vs. what seems to be a standard 12-month warranty for other makes of scooters.  As I see it, the only drawbacks to a Kymco Xciting 250 or 500 for me would be: 1.) the 40-50 mile distance to the closest Kymco dealer and 2.) the relative price premium I'd pay on an Xciting 250 or 500 vs. the Burgman 400.

Any comments from comparison shoppers who ended up taking the "maxi scoot" - especially the Kymco Xciting - road?

Burgman 400 for the price of Xciting 250 + 150 US$?
Sorry, but this is not a matter of choice. I would buy Burgman anytime.

Yes; the deal on the Burgman is too good to pass up. I assume they have corrected the issue with the oil aspirating into the air filter, yes?  I suspect so... Google BurgmanUSA Forum, and ask Bill Meek about that. He's the guy who rides with his dog, Sandy, riding pillion. Nice guy.

Greetings to all. Just joined this forum and liked what I have seen so far.
I have a 2006, Charcoal, People 250, purchased new, now have 40,000+ km
on my baby, only second set of tires. Replaced muffler under warranty and
carburetor with no problems. Installed a J-Costa variator and clutch springs.
The scooter has lived up to KYMCO standards,I love it and would purchase
another KYMCO, possibly a 500.
