Just bought 2013 Agility 125 Blue
« on: July 24, 2013, 01:35:29 AM »
I have had a lot of experience with motorcycles and scooters over the years. Today I bought a Blue 2013 Agility 125. I will pick it up tomorrow. I had the dealer install a battery tender pigtail. I always have hooked my bikes/scooters to a battery tender and have never had to replace a battery yet. Anyway I was pleasantly surprised by the certificate of origin which stated 11 bhp 125cc. Most of my research spec the 125's HP  in 7 hp range. looking forward to starting the break-in tomorrow.

Congrats Larry. I purchased my Agility 125 back in December of last year. The problems have been none. Last week in Vegas, I was at work and we had this massive thunder storm that hit the area.  My bike was parked, but the storm was so powerful it knocked my bike out. There was no damage at all. Trust me, you have a damn good bike. As long as you take of the bike it will take care of you. Enjoy your new toy. 8)

Thanks for the welcome. I am very very happy, happy, happy, to be scooting again. Here are a couple things to look out for I discovered. First the bolts on the rear fender do not line up with the MS tag at all. We had to fabricate a bracket to mount the license plate but not a big deal since I am friends with my dealer and could use the shop and scavenge parts. This is the 11th bike I have bought there and I can walk there from my house. Anyway, I am legally on the road and good for a year. In the meantime we will be checking to see about the KYMCO license plate bracket, missing part, or what. Second the owners manual has a couple misprints. The instructions to set the clock have the button functions reversed and some of the specs vary, but this Agility 125 is a great scooter and superior value to Yamaha or Honda offerings by far. Also 1.9% financing with 0 down 36 months is available now along with some longer terms at slightly higher rates as well.
Rode to the grocery store tonight for bread and cookies, easy parking, helmet, gloves and goggles stowed  securely under seat during my shopping in store. Hooked my two grocery bags onto the hook and took the long way home. The cooler summer evening weather is perfect for break-in miles, or should I say break-in kilometers as this model's odometer is recording those and not miles.
Got it tucked in the garage with the battery tender tonight. Many more great rides to come. Planning a ride to the only gas station in my area serving pure gasoline without ethanol. It will be a nice country ride and a good excuse to go out of town.

Thanks for your comments. Yes I have a big smile on my face riding my scooter. Had a couple more nice rides. Got some 91 octane premium pure gas, that is no ethanol. It was $4.39 per gallon and fill up cost me $3.44. I don't know if I will continue to travel so far to fill up with it but I like having it for the break in miles at least. My dealer has still not received his Kymco service manuals as he is a new Kymco dealer who has been Yamaha and Kawasaki dealer forever.  Ordered a CREE LED headlight bulb off eBay which is rated at 700/1000 lumens  using only 10 watts. The stock bulb life is only rated for 100 hours and is subject to vibration failure of the filiment which the LED is not. The LED will also be whiter and look cool so if it lights the road better too that is a bonus. Can't do much worse than the stock 35/35 and I will have 25 extra watts to add additional LED lighting if necessary.

Did my first service today at 360 km. The oil screen was completely free of any metal particles. Very impressive. Every other first oil change had some flakes or shiny slivers trapped in the screen. Not this Agility 125. Went to Tractor Supply and bought a two pack of 60 cc vet syringes. Loaded it four times to 50cc and shot the Castrol right into the fill hole. 200 ml  perfect. I measured the old gear oil that came out at about 160 ml.
Engine oil was dark but nowhere near black. Air filter looked like new so I left it alone. Good to go. The engine drain plug was very over torqued by the factory imho. The filter screen was torqued correctly.
I also was riding hard at times during this break in period. Many heat cool cycles, some full throttle 60 mph riding alternating with 1/4 throttle cruising. Varied speed and rode during cooler weather. No single trip longer than about 15 miles so engine could cool and balance temperature.
So not seeing any signs of break in wear is encouraging that this scooter will last.  Used RotellaT 15w-40 for this first oil change. Miles per gallon seems higher than spec at about 115 mpg the odometer may by optimistic perhaps 4% as is the speedometer even so mileage would be around 110 mpg. Great!
Regarding the fuel gauge, once it enters the white zone it starts falling fast at the bottom of the red zone it took 1.044 gallons.

Your reading the odometer wrong. It is in kilometers and not miles. I am so happy for you. My bike did well in the high desert heat we had in June in Vegas. Trust me your bike will last a very long time unlike those cheap Chinese bikes.

Actually went 194 km on 1.044 gal. 1 km = .621371 mi.  So 194 x .621371 = 120.5 divided by 1.044 gal. = 115.4 mpg. I will be measuring this next tank more closely to see if this was a fluke. Started with tank filled to ring and 346.2 km on the odometer. Will fill to ring again next fill up and see.

Nice. I just bought an '07 with 3500 km. How come people recommend using rotella t oil? I bought some last night and ended up returning it after seeing it was diesel oil, and changed the oil with conventional 10w-40. Also, can you buy the right gear oil at an auto store?

The thinking is that diesel engines put more strain on engine oil so that oil has to meet higher standards than gasoline engines. Anyway I use Shell Rotella T,  15W 40wt.
"Shell Rotella® T Triple Protection®, our premium heavy duty engine oil for increased protection and value, delivering extra wear-and-acid control." -  it has very good reputation and relatively inexpensive. I put Castrol AXLE LIMITED SLIP 80W-90
"Castrol Axle Limited Slip 80W-90 Gear Oil is a multi-grade gear lubricant that provides excellent performance in a manual transmission and differentials." - oil in the rear. Again a cost effective GL5 rating and good reputation.
Be sure not to over fill the engine with oil as this can cause major problems it takes less than a qt. I would not use any synthetic oils until well after break in mileage is completed.

If you are going by the bikes' odometer, remember that that speedo, either mph or kph is optimistic, so the odo will be also

Haven't used gps yet but road next to my sons bike - he was doing 40 mine showed 42  so lets call it 5% optimistic. One of these days I will borrow my wife's GPS  and know for sure.

8/12/13 Precise fill up to same point. Start 346.2 fill up at 478.7. Went 132.5 km  used .800 gal. that equals 165.63 kpg. or 102.9 mpg uncorrected for odometer error. Estimate 5% optimistic error -6.63km  149.05 kpg. or 92.6 mpg.

9/12/13 Second fill up at 612.1 km. took .917 of 100% gasoline 91 octane. Went 133.4 km used .917 gal. 145.5 kpg or 90.4 mpg uncorrected. Fuel gauge seemed to read higher in the white zone for the amount of fuel needed this time. I was surprised.
