Super 8 runs terrible in colder weather
« on: July 28, 2013, 06:00:39 AM »
it is summer here in South Dakota and with the warm weather my super 8 runs great
the last few days it has gotten cooler.. daytime 68 and evening of 50 or so
took my scooter out tonight and could barely get the speed above 50 to 52
also the bike was very gutless, and even sputtered at higher speeds
you would think with it being air cooled it would run better, but it is quite the opposite
I noticed this when I purchased it in early June
anyone else have this issue or is it just me?

Does the bike run better once fully warmed up?

nope pretty much the same
like crap
I have been researching and it says the air mixture is hard for the carb in the colder air
I would think the opposite, but not from my ride tonight
warm weather it is fine, goes fast

Carbureted bikes can be sluggish in colder weather and take longer to warm up.

I just want to confirm we're thinking the same thing about fully warming up the bike. I don't mean idling a bike for 5+ minutes, but riding the bike gently for five to fifteen minutes before you reach faster roads. Does the bike become more receptive to throttle as time goes on? Does it drop to a nice quiet but steady idle when you come to a stop once fully warmed up?

Have you done any service to the bike recently? Double-check to make sure all the hoses and clamps are secure. A vacuum leak could make the bike sluggish.

Yes, usually December... not freezing though.... Hotcakes, maybe you have a high viscosity oil?

My Super 8 is brand new so I don't know how it will perform in the winter( I used my Yamaha Vino 125 all year round down to 10 degrees). The Vino never had a problem as it has an electric choke and preheater on the carb. Doe anyone know if the 8 has the same?  Vivo, IMI 9mm, Baby Desert Eagle, polymer.
