headlight

My XC250's headlight will not flash to pass and has no high beam. has anyone changed the bulb? The manual is silent about this.

First...does the high beam light on the dash light. Second... There is some limited space that you can reach up inside the cowl. After removing my cowl probably 20 times, I'd recommend that. 6 or 8 screws on the leg shield side and one on the front center air intake. Sooner or later the self tapping screws will wear the plastic studs out, so pay attention. The studs can be modified by retapping for #6 or 8~32 screws. You'll either have to disconnect some light wiring or have someone hold the cowl. Check the Internet for a Kymco parts vendor to get an idea how everything fits.

The high beam light does come on. I can reach up behind the headlight and unplug it, but can't unscrew or unseat the actual bulb.

Also when I looked under the cowl, I noticed two separate wires with female connector ends dangling. I wonder if that is related to my problem?

Extra wires are for some non~US application. Can't recall possibly turn signals. Very likely burned out bulb.

Thanks for the help -- I wondered if those wires were there for some other application.
I think I'll stop by the local Kymco dealer and see if there's an easier way to release the bulb. I just don't want to end up breaking the plastic housing that holds it in place.

Well, you were right, I had to remove the front fairing to get at the headlight, which is held in with a spring clip. Now to find the replacement.

Now is a good time to add a switch and 12 VDC outlet to the dash. You can run a wire from the battery along either side up into the fuel tank access door on the hump. Then use a coat hanger to run it up the center into the covered cowl area.

OKAY --- so I replaced the center headlight, and still I have no high-beam. I also noticed two small, metallic-colored lightbulbs http://on either side of the center headlight -- are these my brights? ???

If this is a single headlight and the lights on either side are silver colored and have silver coated light bulbs.
These were there for some other than a US application. My Grand Vista has a similar set-up (lenses are clear) and I was able to hook up the two smaller bulbs. The lenses of these 2 side lights on the GV were silver coated on the inside
and it didn't look feasible for removing or scraping the coating off. I would get another 12V test light with two
wires and install the stripped ends in the connector (OR: You can get a cheap Volt Ohm Meter too) to verify that the bulb is not burned out. Kymco Parts lists the headlight bulb for some $15.00. Then look at your old bulb to be sure it didn't have corrosion, same for the connector.

Next step would be sure a wire isn't cut, loose or damaged. A Volt Ohm Meter can also check continuity. Unfortunately the wiring diagram prints out really small and is hard to decipher. I believe this is the first instance I've seen of this on this forum. However you can search for "High Beam won't work" and may find something if you haven't already done that.

Thanks for the ideas, I do appreciate it. I've checked the fuses and wiring, and everything seems right. I'll get my hands on a volt tester and check it out, though. At least I have my two-year warranty that should cover this, if I need to drop it off.

Thanks.
