Tire question
« on: July 30, 2013, 08:51:16 PM »
I've put about 1200 miles on my GT so far and love it. I've only been caught in the rain once. I have a couple of tire questions for the forum.

         1. I've only ridden once so far in the rain. I plan on riding regardless of weather (except snow) with this scooter. My GT has the stock MAXXIS tires on it. Is there a better all weather tire out there that would be worth buying. Tire life isn't a huge factor as much as wet weather handling. I don't put a lot of miles on, but I want to feel comfortable riding in the rain.

        2.  My stock front tire is a 110/70x16. If I do get new tire, I want to replace it with a 120/70x16. I think the bigger tire would improve handling and even correct the slightly (2mph) optomistic speedometer.

What do you folks think about my thoughts?

I'm just down the road a piece from Watertown in Syracuse. Let me know how you like your new tires. Did you get the stock sizes or go bigger? I'm a senior (69) citizen also and want good tires on the road.

Mike, I have Michelin City Grips on my scoot for the reason of wet weather riding. Very happy with them and at the 8000 mile mark are wearing well. I ran the Maxis OEM almost to 15K before making the switch.

Got a different scoot (LIKE 200i) I pretty quickly changed tires to Michelin City Grips for exactly the rain reason. The 6 week old stock Kendas are safely bagged in the garage. I ride to work every day - rain, shine. Maybe will try a little snow when that gets here (ohio)
Verdict: Love the City Grips - feel better with them under me when it's bucketing down and i have to keep up with traffic!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.
