Kymco 2010 DT300i speedometer stuck
« on: August 19, 2013, 02:58:29 AM »
I purchased the Kymco 2010 DT300i a little while back. When I started it up the speedometer reset to 50km/h? After riding it for a while the speedometer gradually moved back down to 20km/h, but still not to 0km/h. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? Is it easily fixed? Can I get a motorcycle mechanic to fix it?
This is dangerous as I don't really know what speed I am travelling when on the Kymco 2010 DT300i. I am hoping it is easily fixed and not too expensive as I did not notice the problem when I first purchased the bike as I transported it on my ute to get out of the busy part of town. I hope there is someone out there who knows how to fix the stuck speedometer. Thanks!
The Kymco DT 300i ABS is the best scooter you can get. I love it's carefree automatic ride. I would like to see kymco make a 600cc version but no heavier then the 300. I would buy it for sure

Type of speedo? Mechanical or electronic? My 2013 has electronic with a "tone ring" on the front wheel.

The 2010 Kymco has an analog speedometer

While you are waiting for a speedometer fix, try a water resistant GPS or a GPS in a case. It will provide an accurate digital speedo so long as you can see the sky.

My 2013 also has an analog speedometer. What I am asking is what is the speed sensor on a 2010? Is it a tone ring or  a geared cable drive? Mine has a tone ring. This indicates it is totally electronic with analog readout. I could assume the 2010 has the same thing but then I would have wasted my time and yours by talking about a tone ring and pickup and all the things that could affect them. So, which is it?

Sorry for the misunderstanding Karl. I am told the speedometer is electronic.

It seems that my speedometer was sticking as my scooter battery was had it. After replacing the old battery with a new one the speedometer worked properly. It seems for the speedometer to work correctly it needs a good battery with strong current of power. Thanks for all the interest in my subject.

That same thing happened with my car. The speedo went all crazy and when I couldn't start it and had to replace the battery the speedo worked.

I got the speedo working on an Aprilia Scarabeo with a dead battery, but I never knew what the cause was. It's a great tip for next time.
