gas/oil in the airfilter compartment

Hi, I am having a problem with my Kymco agility 50 07.  I have had it for about 6-7 months, and it seems to be having a problem after I start it up and let it run for a few minutes.  The one symptom that I'm seeing now is that after it starts stalling out...I see what I thought was gas in the air filter compartment.  I had someone else say that it should be oil, but I verified that the oil level was fine, and something I just replaced a few months ago.  I have brought it down with me on vacation,and I'm trying to get this issue resolved.  Does anyone have an idea on what the problem may be?  If all else fails, I will try taking it to the shop, to see if they can tell.  My wife has been looking forward for months to have this for this beach trip, and I'm under the clock.   

Once it stalls out ,then it doesn't seem to start up anymore, until I let it sit for a while.

..spf...From my experience, what you're finding in the air filter compartment is most likely a fuel / oil mix...however, if you are having carburetor problems, or you're "flooding" it while you're cranking, some additional fuel might find it's way in there also..there is also a small "clear" tube beneath the compartment that is plugged on the end. This is your crankcase vent. You should drain that tube periodically...Also verify the integrity of your air filter, and that it's seated properly, and the seals are in good condition...

..there may be a problem with your "Auto Bystarter", (electric choke) which is mounted on the side of your carburetor...Though, usually a problem there would cause the engine not to start initially...I would suggest getting some good spray contact cleaner, or carb cleaner...remove and dis-assemble your carb, (remove the Auto Bystarter too), and thoroughly flush ALL the ports (there are many ports) ...work the throttle body, and accellerator pump when spraying into those ports...

..maybe this will help...it did for me when I had a similar problem...

That was an interesting article about standoff.  I don't think this is my problem, as it looks like I'm getting a slow drip continually from the carb down the hose to the air filter.  So the gas dripping into the air filter compartment seems to be leaking from a small hole right on the steel main carb body.  What I am not able to tell about the hole is if it made that way from the factory, or customized by a previous owner.  The hole bored into the steel is right above where the air hose that goes down to the air filter area. The strange thing is I would think that the problem would have been more apparent if this hole were dripping gas for the last 6 months that we have had the scooter. I guess that we really haven't taken it for a long run, so maybe we just didn't drive it far enough to have it see this problem.  The hole is probably about 3-4 mm in size. 
Any ideas?

..OldGuy...Can you tell me why you suggested a new spark plug in this case??

Oh I forgot to mention that as well.  I did put a new spark plug on there.
