Oil filter cover for X500

I meant to ask y'all. The manual shows a "snap" cover for the oil filter. It was not on my scoot when I changed my oil last week. Is it there to keep the filter from vibrating loose? Do any of you run your scoot without it?

Mine has both a rubber cover and a snap ring - one that pinches closed around the rubber cover.

The rubber cover is probably there to protect from road debris damage. I also noticed that the filter is only about 1/2 inch from the exhaust pipe but I doubt that a rubber cover would offer much protection from heat.
