Maintenance Schedule

If I want to take good care of a new 125, what maintenance schedule should be followed? My dealer says the owners manual is too aggressive and they suggest a first maintenance at 500 miles (instead of 200).

Also, should I learn to change oil myself?

I changed the oil the moment I bought the scoot... No one knows what the factory put in there... I change my oil more frequently than needed... always fresh... why? It's cheap...

Just google / youtube... lots of them there...

I change depending on scoot usage...

yes learn to change both engine and gear oil. it is literally so simple a monkey could be trained to do it. if you can turn a bolt one way and then the other and know how to pour stuff from a bottle its a done deal

i can only tell you i did NOTHING to my scooter for 11,000 MILES except change the tires, oils, brakes, and clean the air filter. thats it

then i checked the valves and they required minor adjustment. i changed the spark plug because i could, and charged the battery. i had the belt and rollers changed and the clutch  / CVT "cleaned." i swapped the ignition coil and fuse and cdi just because i could. and the fuel filter for the same reason, as well as the air filter. i bled the brakes. i have rode for over 6,000 more miles without doing anything more but what i did during the first 11,000 miles

i am not saying neglect your scooter. but this is my experience as well as others. i ride hard and all year round

you results may vary

200 or 500 for the first change is fine. They put in lighter lubricants from the factory so the parts  break in faster so you don't want to leave it much longer than that. For warranty purposes, take it to the dealer for that first one but after that do 'em yourself.

Engine and gear oil changes are simple - open the filler, put a pan under the drain and open that (put a rag over your rear wheel when draining the gear oil, you don't want gear oil all over your rear tire) then when it stops dripping put the drain plug back and refill.

Valve adjustment, belt replacement are both easy on an Agility (either the 50 or the 125) with minimal tools and if you take it carefully are hard to screw up. The black arts of carb and transmission tuning are another matter, physically easy to do but getting it just right is a more intuitive and subjective process.

It's not a big stretch to do almost everything on it yourself, but while it's still under warranty probably wiser to have the dealer do anything major.
