Shinko rear tire report
« on: December 11, 2010, 04:32:04 AM »
Well, I've gotten about 6000 miles out of the Shinko I put on in the spring and it's worn out.  I just ordered another one from Motorcyclesuperstore.com at 41.99 with free shipping in the USA for a limited time.  I have no complaints at all about the tire.  It needed no balancing when installed and has ridden perfectly smoothly through it's life.  Anyone needing one -- this'd be a good time to get one.   Xciting 500 size for rear is:  150 X 70 X 14

With just the little bit of research I just did, I only see one that's wider but not as tall.  160 X 60 X 14.  I only looked at a few brands on the superstore site.

You'd need a 160 X 70 X 14 if you wanted wider and taller and I don't know if there is such a thing.  Just have to look around.  Look at the room you've got inside the swing arm and everything else around the tire to see if you can even go bigger.  ;)  Also, would it hit the inside upper fender when shocks fully compress?

first number is the width in millimeters.  second number is aspect ratio which will give you the height.  Multiply the first number by the second.  Put a decimal in front of the second when you multiply.  That gives you the height in millimeters.

So you DID find one, eh?  Good.

On the rear, I recently installed Bridgestone hoop size 160/60/14 and really liked the way it handled. That was on my '07. So far, I like the Bridgestone hoop design best.

I just purchased an '09 500ri with Kenda tires in stock sized. They seem to handle well. I still prefer the Bridgestone hoop.

I am very pleased with the performance of the -09. The man who owned it had to sell and didn't care for the scooter. So he said. He was happy to take the cash while claiming he wanted a bigger bike and also needed the money, so go figure . . . some people still like the big clumsy noisy pride-ride.

I think also, not many people here in Austin, Texas are familiar with the Xciting 500. I am slowly putting the custom touches on this fine machine. First was a custom seat. Looks great. At least I think so.

Actually, I miscalculated.  It got around 8000 miles.  I'm not dissapointed since I only paid 42 dollars for it and it served well during it's time.  I'm realizing now that my brakes have been dragging very slightly which must have caused it to wear out sooner.

I got about 4K miles out of the original Kenda and same from a replacement Pirelli, cord showing on both at replacement. I'm running the Shinko rear and front now and quite pleased with the result. Seems to me the profile of the Shinko is also much rounder, maybe a bit taller, than the previous tires, which appears to allow for a slight increase in lean angle before stuff scrapes.
Good to hear you got 8K out of the Shinko, I'd be happy with that. First I've heard of an Xciting 500 approaching anything like 18,500 miles on a rear tire. Most other reports I've seen are between 4-6K.

I have Shinko front and rear on my P250.  No complaints! Great prices, wearing well. Good grip.

Hey Rianna.  :)  Well I think this one here was from a member called Kymco500 but guess he edited it away.  He and I discussed several things on here and he seemed like a right nice guy.  Don't know why he's sort of disappeared.

I changed thew front tyre about two months after the rear, not because it looked worn it still had the centre groove showing real deep , but because there were cracks appearing in all the grooves around the tyre...got pictures somewhere if I can figure out how to post them onto the web site

Hi, Alex. Agent Bob found something that worked really great for posting pics. You can find it in this thread here:
