...in most cases that answer would be yes...if you have the correct cdi...

Here's a link on this forum of an '09 cdi.  It did not have the green wire to cut inside the box.  http://kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=1345.0.  I think they determined it was already derestricted, not sure though, haven't read it all in awhile.

..that was indeed a derestricted cdi...no cut necessary...

..newguy, can you post a pic of your cdi?

..or at least tell us what color the leads coming out of the connector...

...there are different cdis in these scoots...i know of many ppl that have an 09 that have cut the cdi with success...

..it all depends on the cdi...it would be almost impossible to say for sure what you should do, without knowing what cdi you have...if it's like most, then you can indeed cut the cdi, and get another 5-10 mph...no need to buy anything...

peace

...the bottom pic of the three in that link has a sticker with a part number on it...that is a unrestricted cdi that was in an A50 of scootermaven's...

...what we would need to know, is the colors of the wires that are connected to your cdi...

..if you have no pink wires connected to your cdi,and your cdi does not have a label pasted to it, then most likely you have a stock, restricted cdi...

..if you have  no pink wires, then you need only to notch the cdi, as in the upper two pics from that link, to de-restrict your cdi...

..if you have pink wires connected to your cdi, then clipping an external wire is required to de-restrict your cdi...

..below is a pic of my dealer-cut cdi...do your wires appear to be the same color as those??

..note that the red wire in the pic does not go to my cdi, that is my battery's hot wire...

..as you can see, cutting a small 1/4 inch notch in the edge of the cdi's casing will harm nothing, even if there is no internal wire there...

..however, if there is, then you have instant speed!!

peace

...i can't say from experience which of any pink wires you need to cut, and i'd have to defer an answer to one of the other guys...lol..

..the internal wire is very small, and i do believe i see green insulation where the dealer chopped mine...

..it could be possible that when you make the notch, that you don't really see the wire at all, until you kinda clean up the cut...

From what I have read I don't think it matters what pink wire you cut...
